According to the PHO order Academy of Learning Surrey is required to re-activate the safety plan based on the current circumstances and updated WorkSafeBC COVID-19 Safety Plan.

Proof of Vaccination| November 10, 2021

As per the Provincial Health Officer mandate published on November 10, 2021, AOLCC-Surrey is required to request for proof of vaccination, or an exemption, from each student enrolled in healthcare programs and who will be on a preceptorship training in a care location. The school must keep a record of each student’s vaccination status.

The proof of vaccination, or an exemption, must be submitted directly to admissionss@bcaol.com.

Mask Mandate | October 29, 2021

The previous order, which was set to expire on October 31, 2021, has been extended to continue to slow the transmission of COVID-19 

As of Friday, Oct 29, 2021, masks must be worn in all indoor public spaces throughout B.C. to help slow the transmission of COVID-19 as B.C. prepares for the fall and respiratory illness season. 

A new order from the provincial health officer will require people 12 and older to wear masks in indoor public settings, regardless of vaccination status. These settings include:

  • malls, shopping centres, coffee shops and retail and grocery stores;
  • liquor and drug stores; 
  • airports, city halls, libraries, community and recreation centres; 
  • restaurants, pubs and bars (unless seated); 
  • on public transportation, in a taxi or ride-sharing vehicle; 
  • areas of office buildings where services to the public are provided; 
  • common areas of sport and fitness centres when not engaged in physical activity;
  • common areas of post-secondary institutions and non-profit organizations; and
  • inside schools for all K-12 staff, visitors and students in grade 4-12.

Protocol Update | July 26, 2021

Beginning July 26, we are removing some of the COVID-19 restrictions and protocols in accordance with the BC Restart Plan, as well as the Ministry’s Return-to-Campus Guidelines. This includes:

  • Removal of room occupancy signage
  • Removal of COVID-19 signage
  • Daily health checklist

As the College continues to transition from COVID-19 specific orders and protocols to communicable disease policies and guidance as outlined by the Ministry in their Return to Campus Guidelines, we remind all our staff, current students and visitors that stopping the spread of COVID-19, seasonal flu and other communicable diseases rely on everyone doing their part. This includes, immunization, daily self-administered health checks, staying home when sick and practicing hand hygiene.

Our institution is operating as usual:

  • Students are learning either on campus or remotely
  • Applications are accepted on a rolling basis

Health & Safety Guidelines | Feb 22, 2021

The Academy of Learning Surrey is following guidelines and protocols established in accordance to WorkSafeBC guidelines as well as guidelines provided to post-secondary institutions by our Provincial Health Officer and the local health authority as outlined in the COVID-19 Go-Forward Guidelines for B.C.’s Post-Secondary Sector document.

International Students

It is the responsibility of AOLCC international students entering Canada to understand and be aware of federal and provincial laws and regulations. For more information, the students are recommended to visit and review official government websites regularly for up-to-date information.

International students and agents must communicate to school staff the student’s expected travel date and arrival to B.C., Canada. It is recommended that you check with your airlines about the specific guidelines about staying safe and for others to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission while travelling. Please practice the necessary precautions prior to your flight and upon arriving in Canada. That is, to wear non-medical masks or face covering, wear gloves (if applicable), exercise safe physical distancing, sanitize and wash your hands frequently. You are required to send in your travel documents and quarantine plan to our admissions office.

Guidelines & Advisory

  • Arriving international students must wear non-medical mask or face covering until arrival at the quarantine location. At the point of entry, you must undergo a health check screening, provide a quarantine plan, complete the traveller contact information form or complete using the ArriveCan mobile app or on the web using the accessible web-based form show required proof of documents for entering Canada.

    You are responsible to self-monitor and assess themselves of COVID-19 symptoms. Common symptoms include: new or worsening cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, temperature equal to or over 38oC, feeling feverish, chills, fatigue or weakness, muscle or body aches, new loss of smell or taste, headache, gastrointestinal symptoms (abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting) or feeling very unwell. Symptoms may take up to 14 days to appear after exposure to COVID-19.

    If you have any of these symptoms, please avoid contact with others and self-isolate for up to 10 days. If unsure about the symptoms, you can contact 811 at HealthLink BC.

    Anyone with symptoms can get tested for COVID-19. Find the nearest testing center here. For daily symptom reporting, use the ArriveCan app. If you receive a positive test result for COVID-19, you must isolate and remain for up to 14 days or as directed by the local public health authority. If the symptoms persist, please contact 911.

    Arriving students will receive a phone call from the AOLCC admissions office. Subsequently, follow up phone calls throughout the quarantine period will ensure your compliance to quarantine requirements and provide support and resources where required.  

Transportations are available from the airport to the quarantine location. Arriving international students can arrange transportation by taxis or rideshare vehicles such as Uber or Lyft. Public transportation is not a recommended option. You must avoid contact with the general public. International students who have arranged accommodations to live with relatives or friends must go directly to the place of quarantine without stopping anywhere else and should avoid contact with others until the quarantine period is over. Alternatively, the following inns and hotels near our campus can accommodate incoming international students during the quarantine period:

  • After the quarantine period, you may seek other accommodations available such as furnished and unfurnished rooms in houses, basement suites, condominiums or apartments. Incoming students can arrange for groceries, food and supplies delivered at their quarantine location. It is recommended that while on quarantine, you do not leave their home/place, unless necessary.

    International students are required to have medical insurance through BC’s publicly funded Medical Services Plan (MSP). They must apply for MSP immediately online upon arrival through the BC Government website. There is a three-month waiting period for all new applicants for which during this period, the students are required to have a private medical insurance.

  • We are currently conducting all student orientations remotely. You will be contacted by our admissions officer for an online orientation session via Zoom or alternative digital softwares. The session includes information about AOLCC’s policies and procedures and protocols in place for limiting the risk of the COVID-19 transmission while on campus. In addition, the college will provide information about computer and software requirements and ways students can find support and assistance about their courses.
